Discovering Apulia - Group package

 Historical, cultural and folkloristic tour of Apulia
(8 days – 7 nights)
 
 

Day 1:

Departure from .. (at) .. (hr). Free lunch enroute to Apulia. Arrival in SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO (Gargano area – Province of Foggia); check in at  the reserved hotel, welcome cocktail, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2:

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to MONTE SANT’ANGELO to visit the suggestive Basilica dedicated to San Michele. Along the way we can see typical trees like Faggi, Pini, Aceri. This Forest belongs to the whole and big National Park of the Gargano, borned in 1991. Departure to VIESTE and stop lunch in a local restaurant. Walking tour through this small and nice town located on the orient side of the Gargano. We’ll end the day enjoy the landscape  of the Baia delle Zagare.          Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3:

Breakfast at the hotel. During the morning we’ll visit one of the best testimony of Padre Pio: “Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza”, hospital built in 1956. It’s possible to take part to the “Via Crucis”, where kneeling people in procession reach the Padre Pio’ statue. Visit to the “Madonna delle Grazie Sanctuary”, with the convent, the cell, the Christ Crucifix, the crypt and the tomb with the Padre Pio ashes. Return to the hotel and lunch. In the afternoon check out and departure to TRANI  to have a walk through its nice and small center and if is possible visit to the wonderful Cathedral (one of the best example of Romanesque Apulia style) wich faced the Adriatic Coast. In the evening arrival in SELVA DI FASANO, check in at the hotel; welcome cocktail; dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4:

Breakfast at the hotel and departure to CASTELLANA GROTTE to explore one of the best – known and most important speleological site in Italy. Transfer to ALBEROBELLO, the Italian “capital of Trulli”, listed in the International World Heritage (UNESCO) since 1996. Here we’ll take an enjoyable walk among these original dome-topped dwellings to learn about their architecture and origins. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon transfer to BARI, the capital town of Apulia. We’ll visit the Basilica dedicated to San Nicola, the Duomo dedicated to San Sabino and Murattiano center. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 5:

Breakfast and check out at the hotel. Departure to LECCE. The city tour includes visiting the Basilica of Santa Croce, the highest expression of Lecce’s Baroque, the nearby Palazzo dei Celestini, the Roman Amphitheatre, Duomo Square and its neighbouring streets also catching sight of the Church of S. Irene. Lunc in a local restaurant. Afternoon drive to OTRANTO and visit of its Medieval town and Cathedral. Transfer to GALLIPOLI and check in at the reserved hotel; welcome cocktail, dinner and overnight stay.

Departure to SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA following the coast route; we’ll cross the “Zinzulusa Cave”. Lunch in a hotel in Leuca. After visiting the Finibus Terrae Sanctuary , we’ll come back in Gallipoli for the sightseeing tour of the so called “white city” for its oriental aspect. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Breakfast and check out at the hotel. Departure to TARANTO where we will visit the National Archeological Museum (housed in the Palazzo Pantaleo) to admire its very important Magna Greciae’s collection, the town’s Cathedral and Doric Temple. Lunch in a local restaurant. The day continues with MARTINA FRANCA: walking tour and visit of its Collegiate Church dedicated to St. Martin. Before reach the hotel in SELVA DI FASANO, we’ll cross trough LOCOROTONDO, a typical town built on circular plan and from where we can enjoy the beautiful view of Valle D’Itria. At the end, arrival in the reserved hotel, check in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8:

Breakfast and check out at the hotel. Departure to ALTAMURA, in the heart of the Murgia Plateau. After walking through the town centre, we’ll visit the Cathedral: the only church  in Apulia wanted by Federico II.              We’ll end with the visit of CASTEL DEL MONTE where we’ll lunch in a local restaurant or “agriturismo”.
