The closest airport is the new Bari Palese “Karol Wojtyla” International Airport, approximately 60 kilometers away.  There are many national and international airlines, including “low cost” airlines that operate at this capital of Puglia.

Train

Matera is the only provincial capital in Italy that does not have national train service.  In all cases, the most accessible Trenitalia staions are those at Bari, Metaponto Scalo and Fernandina Scalo, from which there is bus service to the capital of Lucano.

In addition, near the Bari Central Station, it is possible to take a train from the Ferrovie Appulo Lucane  that provides diirect service from Bari to Altamura and Matera.

Bus

Ferrovie Appulo Lucane and SITA provide connections from Matera, the Trenitalia stations and main localities in the province and in nearby Puglia.
